Your account's disk space is the limit on the total size of the files you can store.  This limit is enforced by a filesystem quota; when you exceed the limit, you will be unable to upload new files until you free some space or upgrade your account.

Extra disk space is $1 for 12 MB, or $10 for 160 MB.

Whenever someone visits your page, data is transferred from our servers to your visitor's computer.  Your account's monthly transfer is the total amount of data that can be transferred from your site each month.  If you exceed this amount, you will be billed at a rate of $4 for each gigabyte in excess of your transfer limit.

When estimating how much transfer you will need, keep these rules of thumb in mind:

• Plain text and HTML files tend to be small and hence use very little transfer.
• High resolution graphics, audio files, and video can use up your transfer limit quickly.
• At the moment, nearly 90% of the sites hosted on our servers transfer less than 3 GB each month.

You can increase the transfer limit on your account for $3 per gigabyte, or $25 for 10 GB.

Each GB transfered over your current plan will result in a $4 fee.

POP3 is a standard protocol for storing and retrieving Internet e-mail.  If you receive mail in a POP3 mailbox, you can read it with nearly any popular mail program, including:

• Mozilla Mail & News
• MS Outlook
• Eudora
• mutt
• fetchmail

Netherweb also provides web access to your e-mail so you can easily access it, even away from home.

Extra POP3 mailboxes are $0.25 each, or $1 for 5.

An e-mail alias is a forwarding address.  You can set an e-mail alias to forward mail to any valid e-mail address.

Five extra e-mail aliases are $0.25, or 25 for $1.

CGI scripts are server-side programs that allow you to create dynamic or interactive content on your web site.  The de facto standard language for CGI scripts is Perl, but we also support other languages, including shell, Python, and tcl.

PHP is another server-side scripting language.  The primary difference is that PHP scripts can be embedded in the same file as static HTML.

MySQL is a popular open-source database management system.  When developing a dynamic web site, using a database such as MySQL is typically faster and more scaleable than storing the information in plain files.  We provide standard libraries for accessing the database via Perl or PHP.  In addition, the online control panel contains an easy-to-use MySQL administration tool.

We provide a flexible, easy-to-use integrated shopping cart and storefront system. If you wish to set up a small e-commerce site, this is the easiest way to do it.

A domain name is the internet address (such as www.yourname.com) that it used to access your site.  You can add extra domains to host multiple sites on the same account.

Hosting an extra domain on your account costs $5; note that this does not cover the cost of registering the domain.

FTP is the easiest way to manage files on your account.  Every hosting plan comes with at least one FTP account to allow you to access your files.  Extra FTP accounts can be restricted to certain directories so, for example, you could allow someone else to administer part of your site without yielding full access.

Extra FTP accounts are $2 each.

The online control panel is an easy-to-use, web-based tool for managing every aspect of your web site. You can upload and edit files, manage your mail accounts, upgrade your account, view and pay invoices online, and much more.

The web server records all traffic to your site.  We use the popular utility Webalizer to generate useful statistics from these logs; you can view your access statistics from the control panel.  Upon request, you can also view the server logs directly.

SSL stands for "Secure Socket Layer." It is a protocol for encrypting data that is transferred over the Internet.  SSL is most commonly used to protect sensitive data such as credit card numbers.

Frontpage is a popular program for designing web sites.  Our servers support Frontpage extensions, which means that files can be uploaded to your account directly from Frontpage.
